Omer Désiré Bouchery was born in Lille. He was the nephew of the sculptor Hippolyte Lefebvre. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lille, and then at the Beaux-Arts Paris (for painting, in the atelier of Cormon; for printmaking, under Jules Jacquet and Antoine Dézarrois). In 1912 Omer Bouchery won the Grand Prix de Rome; in 1931 he was elected Secretary General of the Artistes Graveurs et Lithographes Français. In 1941 Bouchery was awarded the Priz Ary Scheffer by L’Institut de France.
